Bring the maker to the moment.

Engrave Live brings the engraver to the moment: the finish line, the conference booth, the launch, the awards stage. This paper sets out why live, personal moments matter to brands and organizers, and where we fit.

In brief

  • Organizations credit 22% of their new customers to in-person events, and 46% of North American event programs give items custom-made on site.
  • Consumers who attended a brand event trust that brand at 56%, against 11% for those who didn’t.
  • The 2025 Chicago Marathon had 54,383 finishers, the most in its history.

The moment is the medium

Brands are putting more money into being in the room. U.S. spending on experiential marketing grew 9% to $64.43 billion in 2025 (PQ Media, 2026), and in a survey of U.S. professionals, 95% said they trust a brand more after taking part in an in-person event (Freeman Trust Report, 2025).

It works for consumer brands too. In a 2026 Harris Poll for The Freeman Company, consumers who had attended a brand event trusted that brand at 56%, against 11% for those who had not (The Freeman Company, 2026). For a store opening or a product launch, being in the room is the message.

A reason to stop at the booth

Trade shows and conferences are where business buyers meet brands. Business events drew 1.65 billion participants worldwide in 2025 and US$1.3 trillion in direct spending, and organizations credit 22% of their new customers to attending in-person events (Events Industry Council, 2026). Respondents put the return at US$11 in revenue for every US$1 spent attending or exhibiting.

Chicago is built for it. Its operator calls McCormick Place the largest convention center in North America, with 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space (MPEA), and the city welcomed 56.8 million visitors in 2025 (Choose Chicago, 2026).

But a booth only works if people stop. About a quarter of attendees said they had no hands-on interaction at their most important event, and 42% of them said they would shift their attention to other vendors as a result (Freeman Commerce Report, 2025). Nearly all attendees, 96%, say hands-on exposure makes it easier to advocate for a product.

Live engraving gives people a reason to stop: a few minutes in line that turn into a conversation with the vendor, and something with their own name on it to carry around the show floor.

The gift itself is changing too. Swag bags are giving way to gifts built into an activity: 63% of North American organizations now do that, up from 47% a year earlier, while swag bags handed out at registration fell from 76% to 61% (IRF, 2025). Spending per on-site gift rose from $170 to $243 (IRF, 2025).

Winners, on the spot

The best moment to hand over an award is the moment it is won. At a tournament final, a sales kickoff or a gala, our engravers cut the winner’s name into the trophy while the room is still on its feet, so nobody walks off stage with a blank plate and a promise.

Organizations already reach for awards. Among North American organizations surveyed, 36% use symbolic awards in their reward programs and 27% use plaques and trophies (IRF, 2025). And recognition keeps people: employees who are well recognized are 45% less likely to have left two years later (Gallup, 2024).

The name goes on while the room is still applauding.

Finish lines

Race day is the biggest live moment of all. The 2025 Chicago Marathon had 54,383 finishers, the largest field in its history (Chicago Marathon, 2026). London set the world record in 2026 with 59,830 (Guinness World Records).

And runners want more than the usual. 57% say they wish races offered something other than just a finisher T-shirt (Running USA, 2022). A medal with their name on it, cut at the finish line, is that something.

Personal is the point

People reward brands that treat them as individuals. 52% of U.S. consumers say they are more likely to buy from brands that personalize, and they say they spend 30% more with them (Deloitte Digital, 2026). And a name makes a thing stick: 48% of consumers say a personalized item, with their name, initials or role, is more memorable (PPAI, 2025).

What we believe

  • The best keepsake is made in the moment it marks.
  • A booth earns its keep when people stop, stay and talk.
  • A name turns a product into a possession.
  • A winner should leave the stage with their name already on the trophy.
